Get Some Skiing In At Blacktail Dam North of Williston
Blacktail Dam is one of those hidden gems in our back yard. It is a great spot to ice fish this time of year. It's a fun location to float on your boat, ride your jet ski, camp, and catch up with friends. The summer concert series has featured some outstanding music the last couple of years, and the 4th of July at Blacktail is something to behold! Now skiing is offered at this local hot spot.
You read that right. Groomed cross country ski trails at the Blacktail Recreation Area are now open to the public. Follow directions toward the Blacktail Dam Boat Ramp and continue around the lake to the golf course parking area. Once parked, you will find about 1.5 miles of trails with good snow pack. The south side offers a small incline, and the north side is a bit steeper.
As a beginner, this is a great location to develop your skills at your own pace. You can work on your stance, and you can get a better feel of all your equipment. All of this is extremely important as you learn basics of skiing.
If you know how to ski, the Blacktail location would be a great spot to get a workout on the inclines, and you will find it's a good place to rip around on the declines.
You might find yourself looking for something to do over the long weekend. Maybe you want to try some skiing, but you don't have any equipment. Tioga Parks & Rec has cross country skis available to rent. So get out and enjoy even more offerings in your backyard. See you on the bunny slopes!
