Unfortunately, that's gotten a lot more expensive lately.

Gas prices have become one of the biggest talking points of 2026, and don't expect that conversation to slow down as we get closer to the November election.

One of the biggest reasons prices have climbed is the rising cost of crude oil. Ongoing conflict in the Middle East has created supply concerns and disrupted shipping routes, which has pushed prices higher here at home.

The result is gas prices we haven't seen in more than four years.

Great Falls Gas Prices Show Signs of Relief

The good news is that while we're paying a lot more than we were a year ago, prices in Great Falls have actually come down over the past week.

According to Stacker, using data from AAA, here's where gas prices stood in Great Falls as of June 29.

• Gas current price: $3.91
• Montana average: $3.95
• Week change: -$0.10 (-2.4%)
• Year change: +$0.61 (+18.6%)
• Historical expensive gas price: $4.96 (6/20/22)

As far as the cost of diesel, here are those numbers.

• Diesel current price: $4.34
• Week change: -$0.37 (-7.8%)
• Year change: +$0.64 (+17.3%)
• Historical expensive diesel price: $5.91 (6/26/22)

Hopefully this trend continues, because it'd be nice to spend a little less at the pump while we're out exploring Montana this summer.
