
Montana Ranks Near Top for Firearm Sales
Montana has quite a few moneymaking industries that many of us are all familiar with. From petroleum refining to ranching and farming, there's a lot of money to be made in Montana.
There's also another industry that Montana is on the verge of leading in our country... gun sales.
The Firearm Business Is Booming In Montana
If you were to ask someone which state they think is leading the country in firearm sales, you might get guesses like Texas and maybe even California solely based on size. While we can say that's accurate, it looks a little bit different when you look at the details.

For example, large states leading total gun sales include Texas, Florida, California, and Pennsylvania according to Safe Home. According to World Population Review, the populations of those states are 31.8 million, 23.8 million, 39.6 million, and 13.1 million respectively.
But when you look at the sales adjusted for population, things get a little more interesting.
Montana Is One Of The Top States For Gun Sales Per 100 Residents
When it comes to gun sales per 100 residents over the age of 21, Montana ranked second in the country at 15.9 sales per 100 residents over 21 with an estimated 135,882 transactions in 2024 according to Safe Home. Only Wyoming ranked higher, and just barely, at 16.1 sales per 100 residents with less total estimated sales of 68,964 in 2024.

Through the first four months of 2025, Home Safe's data reveals that Alaska, Wyoming, Oregon, Colorado, and Montana have the "highest per capita gun sales rates."
