45 Stunning Photos Of Montana’s Aurora In The Sky
If you thought Montana's skies couldn't get any more magical, the light show we all experienced proved us all wrong.
Whether you call them the "Aurora Borealis" or "The Northern Lights", we were treated to a full-on cosmic ballet by the auroras in the Big Sky.
Why Was The Montana Sky So Vibrant On Tuesday, November 11th?
According to ABC News and the NOAA, "the auroras are being caused by one of the strongest geomagnetic storms of the year, which occurs when electrons from the sun collide with Earth's magnetic field to produce colored lights."
And the result? Absolute beauty.
My wife has an app that tracks KPI levels (geomagnetic activity on a scale from 0 to 9) for aurora and the second she saw those levels go over 8, she went outside as quick as possible... and I'm glad she did!
At first, we just saw a pink glow in the sky but when we pointed our phones at the sky to capture the moment... that's when we realized how amazing the auroras really are.
It was at that moment I realized: "Wait, this is just our backyard in Great Falls... what are OTHER Montanans seeing in the sky right now?"
I immediately went to our station Facebook pages and asked folks to share what they're seeing and let me tell you - they didn't disappoint.
45 More Reasons To Love The Big Sky
We received nearly 50 photos of the auroras in the sky from Montanans and I can't stop looking through them. They're absolutely hypnotizing and I hope as you scroll through, you'll experience the same kind of awe.
