But what is "Looksmaxxing"? According to experts, it's an extreme method to "maximize" one's appearance, typically the face, and doing so in a way that involves hurting yourself to get results.

Looksmaxxing videos across social media show young men hitting their faces with massage guns and in some cases, actual hammers. Experts warn this practice could have dangerous consequences physically and mentally.

"There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good and caring for your appearance can build confidence and be gender affirming." Christine Ruberti-Bruning, MA, ATR-BC, CEDS, LPC, licensed therapist and certified eating disorder specialist told Heathline.

"But the big difference is that looksmaxxing is rooted in self-hate and trying to fit in, at the cost of your health and safety."
