Is This Humble Joint in Missoula Really Montana’s Best Restaurant?

Ok, let the debate begin. Montana's best restaurant is located in Missoula.

Just that sentence alone is going to make some people angry. After all, to quote Vincent from the movie Pulp Fiction, "That's a bold statement."

There are so many great places to eat across the state. Some are definitely worth raving about. Like the best sandwiches in the state can also be found in Missoula. That's another debate entirely.

Proclaiming the best restaurant anywhere is not an easy thing to do, but Love Food has attempted to do just that. They have compiled their list of "The Best Restaurant In Every State: Our Ultimate List".

When most people think of Montana food steak may be the dish that pops into their head first. After all, we have a great selection of steakhouses in a state that's known for cattle. But Montana's best restaurant isn't a steakhouse, it's a BBQ spot.

Missoula's Notorious P.I.G. has been named the best restaurant in Montana. The restaurant has also recently been named the best place to get some BBQ ribs in Montana.

Their original location at 247 West Front Street isn't the biggest or the fanciest restaurant around. Don't expect reservations or cloth napkins. After all it is a BBQ joint. Their southside location is in an old Jiffy Lube store.  What you can count on is truly fantastic BBQ.

It is so good that they regularly sell out of their meats. So the earlier you get there the better your chances of getting what you want.

The meats are smoked daily: ribs, pulled pork, tri-tip sirloin, burnt ends and turkey.

They offer a selection of delicious sauces:

• Sweet Cady's
• House Spicy
• Midas Touch (a mustard-based sauce)
• Caroline's Vinegar (a vinegar-based sauce)

The sides are great too. I recommend the deviled egg potato salad and the pit baked beans. They used to serve an amazing gouda mac and cheese, but it looks like they don't offer that on their menu anymore. I'll have to ask about that the next time I place my order.
