Montana’s Welcome Signs Get a Makeover — Cast Your Vote
There is something special when you drive home into Montana and see one of our “Welcome to Montana” signs. Whether it’s the picture of the elk with the outline of Montana, or the sign that looks like the “Made in Montana” sign, for me, it means I am home.
Why a Redesign Matters
These signs are going to get a makeover. Visit Montana has proposed three new sign designs for an updated version, and you have the opportunity to vote for your favorite design.

All three signs feature mountains and flat land on the signs; it’s just a matter of taste when it comes to which design you prefer.
Who Gets to Vote (and How)
The new design will be voted on by Montanans. The website states:
Only Montana zip codes count toward the final pick,
though we won't stop the rest of you from chiming in.
For me, the welcome sign I see most often is on the overpass on Interstate 90 at the Montana/Idaho border at the top of Lookout Pass. I have always appreciated that the sign isn’t on the side of the road, it’s above the road, and it’s hard to miss.
Next year, Montana may see a rise in visitors.. Expedia has listed Big Sky, Montana, as the top travel destination for 2026.
