Costco Is Testing Checkout Tech That Could Change How Montanans Shop
There are things at Costco that don't change, like the price of their hot dogs at the food court, or the cost of their rotisserie chicken. Customers are thankful that those things don't change.
There are some things that have changed at your Montana Costco. We have seen changes in the packaging of the rotisserie chicken change and the use of technology with membership card scanners at the entrance of the stores. We have also heard recently that they are going to add a buy-now, pay-later option for some online purchases.

There are Facebook and Reddit groups solely focused on all things Costco. There was a Reddit thread that has recently been started regarding new technology that Costco is trying out in some locations. They are working on a "scan and go" approach which may help the checkout process go much faster for customers.
Costco Is Testing 'Scan and Go' Technology
According to Reader's Digest, some stores are already experimenting with the technology. Costco hasn't announced anything official yet. The concept would be to scan a QR code when entering the store and then scanning your purchases as you shop with a tablet or device. Once you are done shopping you present the device to a Costco employee, you pay, and then leave. That's the concept.
There will be items not allowed with service, like alcohol and tobacco. Some customers in certain locations are already testing out the process. As the testing continues, and if it turns out to be successful, don't be surprised if you see the technology roll out in all their stores including those here in Montana.
