The harvest season was always something special up on our farm up near Grenora. There was a magic in the air that’s hard to explain. Was it the hum of machinery working from dawn to dusk? Maybe it was the sense of community—neighbors helping each other bring in the crops. And having lunch and supper in field...that was always something to talk about! Whatever it was, it made harvest season a time to remember, and I can honestly say I miss it!

Now, as the spring wheat harvest winds down across the nation, it’s clear this year is shaping up to be a good one. As of Sunday, September 15th, according to USDA’s latest Crop Progress Report, the national spring wheat harvest is 92% complete—just ahead of last year’s pace. North Dakota farmers have brought in 88% of their crops, while Minnesota is almost done at 99%, and South Dakota has wrapped things up entirely.

The best part? The yields are looking great! For farmers in our area, that’s fantastic news. A successful harvest means a lot of hard work has paid off, and the promise of a productive season is always cause for celebration.

So while I might not be out in the fields anymore, I can still feel the excitement of harvest season. I can still hear the combine bog down a bit with a heavy load of wheat, and still smile about listening to the radio in the dump truck as the sun sets. It is as clear today as ever that It’s more than just gathering crops—it’s a reminder of community, hard work, and the joy of seeing the fruits of your labor. Here's to a successful season and many more to come!
