Young entrepreneurs in western North Dakota are about to have their moment in the spotlight, and honestly, some local adults may want to take notes. The upcoming Junior Market in Williston is giving kids the chance to become business owners for a day — complete with products, customers, pricing, and maybe even a few “Sorry, we’re sold out!” signs by the end of the afternoon.

Hosted by the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce, Junior Market takes place Saturday, May 16, at the new armory in downtown Williston, with the fun kicking off at noon.

This isn’t your average lemonade stand on the corner.

A Chance For Kids To Shine

Junior Market gives kids the opportunity to create and run their own small businesses by selling homemade products like cookies, lemonade, crafts, greeting cards, stickers, baked goods, and other creative items. For many of the young participants, this will be their very first experience handling money, talking with customers, and learning what it takes to turn a simple idea into something people actually want to buy.

And let’s be honest — some of these kids are probably already better marketers than most adults.

The Kids Make ALL The Decisions

The event is designed to be fun, encouraging, and community-focused while also teaching valuable real-world lessons. Kids decide what they want to sell, how to display their products, and how to interact with shoppers walking through the market.

More importantly, they get to experience the pride that comes with creating something themselves.

It's A Great Way To Learn

Junior Market helps young entrepreneurs build confidence, independence, creativity, and communication skills — all while having a great time. It’s a chance for kids to step outside their comfort zones and discover they’re capable of more than they may have realized.

For the community, it’s also a reminder that big dreams often start small. Today it might be cookies and handmade bracelets. Tomorrow? Who knows — maybe the next great western North Dakota business success story starts right here at Junior Market.

So if you’re looking for something fun to do on May 16, stop by downtown Williston, support these young business owners, and maybe bring a little extra cash. Something tells me those homemade goodies are going to sell fast.
