Williston State College Launches New “Degree Bridge” Program with Dickinson State University

WSC has officially opened enrollment for its new Degree Bridge program, with Dickinson State University (DSU) serving as its first partner. This forward-thinking partnership allows students to begin their studies at WSC, stay right on the Williston campus, and then seamlessly transition into select DSU bachelor’s degree programs—all without relocating or disrupting their educational progress.

“Degree Bridge is about removing barriers,” said Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of Williston State College. “We know many students want the flexibility to stay close to home while continuing their education. Through this partnership, they can progress from an associate to a bachelor’s degree—supported by both WSC and DSU every step of the way.”

How It Works

Students who enroll in the Degree Bridge program are co-matriculated, meaning they are officially recognized by both WSC and DSU at the same time. This setup allows students to take a strategic mix of courses from each school that align with both general education and upper-division requirements. The advising process is fully coordinated, ensuring a smooth transition into university-level courses, typically beginning in the third year of study.

Programs Available Now

The first available pathway through Degree Bridge is the Bachelor of Business Administration from Dickinson State University, with four highly sought-after specializations:

  • Accounting

  • Human Resource Management

  • Administration

  • Finance

These programs are ideal for students pursuing careers in accounting, business management, or human resources—offering a career-ready bachelor’s degree while maintaining the community connection and support of WSC.

Affordable and Accessible

One of the most exciting aspects of the Degree Bridge program is its affordability. While co-matriculated, students may qualify for partner tuition waivers or scholarships that align with WSC’s tuition rate per partner policy. This makes it one of the most cost-effective bachelor’s degree options in North Dakota. Students also retain access to WSC’s full range of campus resources, academic support, and local community connections throughout their studies.

“This collaboration truly embodies the North Dakota University System’s vision of connected, student-centered higher education,” said Scott Molander, President of Dickinson State University. “By working together, we’re giving students in northwest North Dakota the chance to achieve their educational and professional goals without sacrificing location, affordability, or quality.”

More Opportunities Ahead

WSC plans to expand the Degree Bridge program in the coming years with additional partners, including Mayville State University, Valley City State University, and others within the North Dakota University System.
