Could This October Seminar Help Strengthen Local Nonprofits?
There is a lot that goes into keeping a nonprofit organization running.
Behind the fundraisers, community programs and charitable work are people handling finances, recruiting volunteers, keeping records, planning for the future, and trying to make the most of limited resources.
That is why the Northwest North Dakota Community Foundation is bringing its second annual Nonprofit Seminar to Williston on Tuesday, October 6.
Anna Nelson, a board member with the North Dakota Community Foundation, stopped by earlier today to talk about the upcoming event and what it hopes to offer local nonprofit organizations.

A Day Focused on Stronger Nonprofits
The seminar, built around the theme Connect. Learn. Lead., is designed for nonprofit professionals, board members, volunteers, community leaders and anyone interested in nonprofit work.
The foundation launched the seminar last year as a way to support the organizations already working to make northwest North Dakota a better place. After the response to the first event, this year's seminar expands the conversation beyond fundraising to include leadership, strategic planning and day-to-day operations.
Fundraising remains an important part of nonprofit work, but having the resources is only part of the challenge. Organizations also need the tools and knowledge to manage those resources, lead their teams and plan for the future.

Leadership, Trust and Practical Information
One of the key discussions will focus on trust and leadership. Keynote speaker Katherine Ogden-Miley of Chase · True North will explore the role trust plays in nonprofit organizations and the relationships they depend on, including donors, volunteers, staff and board members.
Another session will offer practical information for smaller organizations. Lee Suess Accountants and attorney Emily Ramage Geltel will lead a 90-minute discussion covering financial accounting, meeting procedures and recordkeeping, with time for attendees to ask questions.
The event will also include a Community Connections Wall where organizations can share what they need, what they can offer and the connections they hope to make.

Giving Northwest North Dakota Nonprofits a Voice
Kayla Deitch, the first full-time executive director of the North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations, will also bring the organization's statewide Listening Tour to the seminar.
The session will give local nonprofits an opportunity to share their experiences, challenges and needs directly with NDANO.
The Northwest North Dakota Community Foundation serves Williams, Divide, McKenzie and Mountrail counties and works to connect people and resources with local charitable efforts.
Where and How to Register
The Nonprofit Seminar will start at 8:30am, adn will be held at Train ND in Williston, located at 415 22nd Ave. NE.
