The Williston Police Department is warning residents about a new wave of scam text messages pretending to be from the United States Postal Service. Officials say the messages are designed to trick people into clicking suspicious links and giving away personal or financial information.

The scam message often claims a package cannot be delivered because the shipping label is damaged or incomplete. Recipients are instructed to click a link to “re-update” their address information so the package can be delivered. In many cases, the message appears urgent and may even sound convincing.

Fake USPS Text Claims Delivery Problem to Steal Personal Information

One example of the scam includes a message from someone claiming to be “Logan from the USPS team,” saying a package is currently on a delivery truck but cannot be delivered due to missing address details. The message then provides a fake website link and asks the recipient to verify their information online.

Police say these messages are fraudulent and should not be trusted. The web addresses included in the texts are often slightly altered versions of legitimate websites and are designed to steal personal data, passwords, or banking information.

Don’t Click the Link: Police Warn of USPS Text Scam

The Williston Police Department reminds residents that legitimate delivery companies, including USPS, will not ask customers to provide sensitive information through random text links. If you receive a suspicious message, do not click on any links or respond to the sender.

Instead, verify package deliveries directly through official shipping websites or mobile apps. Residents are also encouraged to block the sender and delete the message immediately.

Scammers continue to target people through text messages, emails, and social media, often relying on panic and urgency to get quick responses. Authorities encourage anyone unsure about a message to contact the shipping company directly using official contact information.

Police say staying cautious and double-checking suspicious messages can help prevent identity theft and financial loss.
