Unleash Your Leadership: Join Williston ND’s If I Were Mayor Essay Competition!
Every once in a while, something comes along that makes you wish you could go back in time and see how you’d handle it. I wish I could go back in time and participate in this competition.
Hey, future leaders of Williston, here’s your chance to shine!
Any Area Students Want To Be A Mayor?
The North Dakota League of Cities is once again calling on 3rd and 7th graders to participate in the If I Were Mayor essay contest. This annual event encourages young minds to think about public service, leadership, and—let’s be honest—what they’d do with unlimited mayoral power. (Free ice cream or wings on Fridays, anyone?)
Start The Process Now!
The deadline to submit your essay is March 14, 2025. Teachers submitting entries must include the student’s name, school, and teacher’s name. Individual entries should include the student’s name, address, and a parent’s contact information. Complete rules and submission details can be found here.
Efforts Will Be Rewarded
Winning essays will be announced during City Government Week in April. The prize? A $150 cash award and a feature in the League’s CITYScan publication. But wait, there’s more! Williston students also get a shot at a special prize pack, recognition at a City Commission meeting, and the ultimate honor—riding in the Band Day parade!
So, if you’ve ever dreamed of running the city (or just canceling Mondays and homework), get those kids together and put all those thoughts on paper. Then help them submit those essays! You never know where our next leaders will come from.
