If you’ve ever wondered which city in your state is most likely to embrace the “bottoms up” mentality, look no further! Thanks to a fun and somewhat eyebrow-raising map shared on X by Terrible Maps, we now have a definitive, albeit unofficial, guide to the drunkest cities across the nation.

As we take a light-hearted look at our corner of the country, let’s explore the cities that top the list in North Dakota, Montana, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

First up, North Dakota. The title of the drunkest city goes to none other than Grand Forks. Known for its chilly winters and the University of North Dakota, it seems that the locals here have found a way to keep warm with a drink or two… or maybe three. Whether it’s the college students or the long winters, Grand Forks knows how to keep the party going.

Over in Montana, Butte takes the crown. This historic mining town has a rough-and-tumble reputation, and it looks like that extends to its drinking habits as well. With its rich history and spirited locals, Butte seems to be the kind of place where every story ends with a clink of the glass.

South Dakota’s Brookings is next on the list. Home to South Dakota State University, it’s no surprise that Brookings earned this dubious honor. The combination of college life and small-town charm makes for a lively social scene, where the drinks flow as freely as the jokes.

Finally, we have St. Cloud, Minnesota. Nestled along the Mississippi River, St. Cloud is known for its beautiful parks and vibrant arts scene. But according to Terrible Maps, the city also enjoys a good drink, making it the drunkest city in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

So, there you have it! Whether you call these cities home or are just passing through, remember to raise a glass and toast to the local spirit—just maybe not too many!

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
