Mosquitoes Are Bugging You? Fogging Is Scheduled in Williston and Area Communities

If you've noticed mosquitoes taking advantage of these late-summer evenings, help is on the way.

The Williams County Vector Control District (WCVCD) is planning truck-mounted mosquito fogging in several communities this week, including parts of Williston.

The treatments are scheduled to take place near sunset, weather and conditions permitting.

Williston Fogging Tuesday

On Tuesday, August 25, WCVCD will conduct ground adulticide treatments in Williston Spray Blocks 2, 4, and 7.

Then, on Wednesday, August 26, crews are scheduled to treat areas in:

• Epping
• Grenora
• Ray
• Springbrook
• Trenton

Residents can check the WCVCD Spray Block Map to see the areas included in the scheduled treatments.

Keep Your Distance From Fogging Trucks

WCVCD will use DeltaGard, with the active ingredient deltamethrin, for the treatments. The product is approved for use in residential areas.

Residents are reminded to stay at least 300 feet away from Vector Control trucks while fogging operations are underway.

The treatments are designed to help reduce adult mosquito populations, but residents can also take a few simple steps to protect themselves from bites.

A Few Ways to Avoid Mosquito Bites

Mosquito activity can be especially noticeable around dusk and dawn. If you're going to be outside during those times, WCVCD recommends wearing long-sleeved, tightly woven shirts and long pants.

You can also limit the amount of time spent outdoors between dusk and dawn and use an insect repellent such as DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.

And don't forget about standing water around your property. Dumping water from buckets, containers, flowerpots, and other areas where it collects can help eliminate places where mosquitoes can breed.

With summer winding down, nobody wants to spend the final warm evenings of the season swatting mosquitoes. A little preparation, along with the scheduled fogging, can help make being outside a little more enjoyable.
