Williston Coyotes vs Bismarck Legacy: Homecoming 2025 Pregame Primer
The bleachers at Legends Field will be full tonight. Students in orange and black will paint their faces, the band will play a little louder, and parents will cheer a little longer.
Homecoming games always feel bigger, even if the records say otherwise.
For Williston, at 0-4, this is a season searching for traction. For Bismarck Legacy, at 3-1, this is a chance to reassert themselves as one of the Western Dakota Association’s and the state's top teams. Together, they meet Friday night in Williston, where football sometimes tells stories bigger than the scoreboard.
Sabers
Legacy arrives with balance and confidence. In four games, the Sabers have piled up more than 1,400 yards of offense, nearly 1,000 of them on the ground. Quarterback Brody Weigel has thrown for 508 yards and five touchdowns, but the center of gravity is running back Yasin Jama. With 550 rushing yards and six touchdowns, Jama is the player Williston must solve to stay in the game. Weigel has help through the air as well, particularly from wideout Jack Julson, whose 22 catches have produced three touchdowns. On defense, Legacy’s Brady Wike and Bennett Lonn anchor a unit that plays physically and forces mistakes.
Coyotes
The Coyotes know mistakes have been their undoing. Ten giveaways so far this year tells that story. But even in losses, there have been glimmers. Last week, senior running back Dominic Thompson rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Colin McCuistion found Leon Kendor downfield for 41 yards. Small plays, yes—but evidence of growth.
Williston hasn’t won since October 2023. Coincidentally, that win came against Legacy. And so, tonight, the Coyotes return home, in front of their classmates and families, and legends of yesteryear chase something that doesn’t always show up on stat sheets: hope.
