Legacy Walks Off in Extra-Inning Thriller Against Williston
In a tense extra-inning matchup in the quarterfinals of the WDA tournament, the Bismarck Legacy Sabers edged the Williston Coyotes 2-1 in 10 innings on Thursday evening.
It was a pitcher’s duel that saw both teams combine for just three total runs across ten frames, with Legacy capitalizing late to secure the walk-off win.
In the second inning, Williston scored first thanks to a couple of free passes and a sacrifice fly by third baseman Jaxon Tamez, which brought in Eden Mortenson, who had singled earlier in the frame.
Despite taking an early lead, the Coyotes' bats faltered, managing only three hits throughout the remainder of the contest.
Legacy responded in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single, tying the game at 1-1.
The Sabers continued to threaten, but Coyotes starting pitcher Chase Collings was masterful, pitching into the 10th inning.
He scattered nine hits over 9.1 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out four and not issuing a single walk.
However, Legacy finally broke through in the bottom of the 10th, sealing the 2-1 victory for Legacy in walk-off fashion.
With the loss, Williston drops their first game of the WDA action and advances to loser-out action against Bismarck Century at 1:30 PM CST from the Phil Rabon field on the campus of Williston State.
