Investing in education is a cornerstone of community development, and can have a transformative impact. This is why, each year, Mountrail Williams Electric Cooperative (MWEC)  offers scholarships to deserving students within the communities they serve.

MWEC believes that empowering students with knowledge and skills is instrumental in fostering the growth and prosperity of our communities. Acknowledging the financial challenges associated with pursuing higher education, MWEC expanded the number of scholarships available this year.

The scholarships available include:

MWEC & BEPC Scholarships ($4,500 awarded): MWEC, in collaboration with Basin Electric Power Cooperative, annually awards scholarships to dependent children of MWEC members and employees. The top three applicants are selected, with the application due by February 16, 2024. There's a $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000 scholarship available. High school seniors and college freshmen who are MWEC members or employees qualify.

Haugen Family Scholarship ($5,000 awarded): This scholarship, worth $5,000, is for qualified applicants pursuing degrees in two-year colleges, four-year colleges, or certified Vocational or Technical schools. Applications are due by February 15, 2024. High school seniors, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, whether MWEC members or not, can apply.

Community Scholarships ($9,000 awarded): Designated schools will each have one high school senior awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The due date for applications is March 15, 2024. These nine scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, are open to both MWEC members and non-members.

Annual Meeting Scholarships ($2,000): Mark your calendars for the 2024 Annual Meeting on June 6, 2024, at the Williston Fairgrounds! Attendees can participate in the 'Luck of the Draw' scholarship with no specific due date. There are two $1,000 scholarships available exclusively for MWEC members who are high school graduates or have completed their freshman year in college.
