Banner Day: Montana Grizzly Football Overwhelms Weber State

On a lovely fall day, the football gods smiled down early and often on the Montana Grizzlies.

The University of Montana raced out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and basically coasted from there, taking a 31-10 lead into the locker room at halftime, and subduing the Weber State Wildcats 38-17.

In a game where time of possession meant next to nothing, the Grizzlies capitalized on short drives and big plays. The Griz defense forced a fumble in the first minute of the game deep in Wildcat territory. A Brooks 12-yard touchdown run made it 7-0. Quarterback Ke'ali'i Ah Yat hit receiver Blake Bohannon for a 62-yard scoring strike, followed by a Ah Yat 2-yard touchdown run to shell-shock the Wildcats in the first  quarter.

Perhaps a little complacency set in. With many of the Griz starters on the bench by the fourth quarter, Weber State was able to make the final score look a bit more respectable.

Griz Running back Eli Gillman ran for 122 yards and a touchdown. Ke'ali'i Ah yat passed for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

All-everything receiver/running back/quarterback Michael Wortham had an extremely quiet day for Montana by his standards, only totaling 30 yards and no scores on the day.

With the win, Montana improves to 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in Big Sky Conference play, and should maintain a secure hold on at least their #3 national ranking.

After two consecutive road games, it's back home to host Eastern Washington at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8.
