Best Songs Ever About Big Sky Country
Music has the power to move the soul, and songs are created from inspiration. This inspiration can come from heartbreak, love, challenging times, joyful moments, or even a special location.
Montana has a way of inspiring one's creativity. Her vast open skies, jaw-dropping mountain views, rivers that cut through rugged terrain, and the adventures along the way have certainly sparked creativity for many of the years.

It's no surprise there have been a few songs written about this slice of heaven, and we have compiled a list for you.
Twodot Montana
This is a classic Hank Williams Jr. song about him being locked up in Deer Lodge, Montana, his western adventures, and the classic line "I'm from Twodot, Montana, and I don't give a damn." If you've never heard of Twodot, it's just north of Livingston and has a population of 19 as of 2024.
The Gift
Written and sung by Ian Tyson, The Gift is a classic Western story about the famous Charles Marion Russell (also known as C.M. Russell) traveling to Montana.
Bob Fudge
Another Ian Tyson song, which was recently reproduced by Colter Wall in 2019, is a cowboy ballad. He sings about a cattleman, Bob Fudge, who was making his journey north to Montana and the evolution of the Wild West.
The Ballad of Willie and Millie
A classic love song was written by Walkin Jim Stoltz, who earned his nickname from walking over 28-thousand miles on long-distance trips across America. Montana, being one of the states he traversed, serves as the inspiration for this song about two lovers meeting in Columbia Gardens in Butte.
