Is Montana One Of The Most Affordable Places To Live?

I often chuckle when I come across articles about Montana, especially the ones that talk about living here that are written by people who don't live here.

Now, I've been accused of many things during my writing career when it comes to articles about Montana. I've been called a transplant (which I am), I've been told to go back to California (only visited once, and I was 12), and idiot (that's debatable) and I've been accused of being AI (I don't know if that's good or bad).

However, one thing that IS accurate is that I am a resident of Montana and have lived here for years and have witnessed the many changes that have taken place. So, when I come across something questionable, I tend to call it out.

Hence the reason I'm writing this. While I normally agree with my friends over at American Expedition, I just can't get on board with this.

They released a list of the Most Expensive States To Live In, and while Montana made the list, so did the other 49 states. What was eye-catching was the ranking Montana received.

So, where did Montana land? Top 5? Top 10? Top 15? No, no, and no. According to the data, there are 28 states that are more expensive to live in than Montana, including many of our neighboring states.

Yep, places like Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Utah were all ranked ahead of Montana when it comes to cost of living.

Am I missing something here?

I mean, I guess if you were to take Bozeman, Missoula, and Whitefish out of the equation, then maybe, but Bozeman is one of the most expensive cities in the country, and it certainly isn't cheap to live in Missoula.

So yes, I call BS on this. Plus, I would like to see the data that they gathered to come to this conclusion.
