On the second floor of the Mandan Police Department, I had a chance to sit down with two close friends

This afternoon, I had the honor of meeting "Two of our finest,' who help keep Mandan safe. Sergeant Joshua Scherr and his partner Kupper, a German Shepherd canine, who is less than two weeks away from retiring. I sat in my chair and watched a beautiful animal stretch out by the desk of his partner of two years, which put a smile on my face.

"Kupper will soon enjoy his inner puppy self..."

Kupper is 8 years old, and he has served the Mandan Police Department for 6 years. There is no easy road to all the incredible amount of hours it takes of training, to stay certified every month ( 16 hours per month ) - here is something I didn't know, you just can't throw a police officer and a canine together and expect them to click right away - Kupper had to have time to bond with Josh ( a Sergeant now for two years ). A retirement gathering is planned for all of us to gather and pay our respects and admiration:

Please join us to celebrate K9 Kupper's 6 years of loyal service to the Mandan Police Department!
It's no surprise that Kupper has become like a mascot at the Mandan Police Department
I asked Sergeant Scherr for some of his favorite memories working with Kupper, both on and off duty. One of which was a dangerous situation, "When I deployed him into a house to detain a suspect, and he led me to a closet where someone was hiding,  ( who gave up immediately when he found out that Kupper was right outside the door ) "- by the way, this awesome canine has never had to bite someone in the line of duty. Joshua fondly remembers their X-Mas tradition together - delivering blankets to the two hospitals for all the children.
It will take some time for Kupper's absence to mend
The job of a criminal investigator is to "put the pieces together", and Joshua does it well as he passes his experience on to help younger detectives ( something he takes great pride in ) - "I will miss getting a call from an officer that needs canine help on the scene."
So soon, Kupper will relax and enjoy retirement life - living with his partner and best friend.
