Fields of Fire: A North Dakota Morning Turns Deadly
Today is October 9th, 2025 - This morning, the weather was just a tad chilly, but all in all, just a normal day
Yes, just a normal Thursday morning in Page, North Dakota ( about 172 miles from Bismarck ) - everything turned hectic right before 11:00 am, about 5 miles Northwest of Paige, a collision was about to happen, and sadly, a life would be lost. This was a major crash, a thunderous impact.
"The impact caused the lead locomotive to catch fire..."
Here is what happened, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol's post on Facebook:
"Train vs. Combine Crash – Page Area
At approximately 10:59 a.m. on October 9, 2025, a collision occurred between a BNSF train and a combine on 133rd Ave SE between 16th and 17th St SE, about five miles northwest of Page.
The combine was traveling south on the gravel road when it collided with the front locomotive of a westbound BNSF train. The impact caused the lead locomotive to catch fire, and approximately 20 train cars derailed, spilling cargo into nearby fields.
The train’s engineer and conductor escaped safely before the fire and were not injured. The combine driver died as a result of injuries sustained.
Here is a question that some people had brought up (which made sense ), and the answer that was given made sense as well
"Did the Combine driver simply not hear the train?" and the answer to that question made sense - "For the people who say the combine driver should have heard the train, combines can be very loud when your driving them"
Was this an accident that could have been avoided? Sure it was, and dangerous accidents are avoided every day, and with most deadly incidents, others learn to be more aware and cautious in the future.
