Spooky season is approaching, and with that, I thought we should take a look at some of the scariest jobs in North Dakota.
Keep in mind, while you might not immediately look at these jobs as "Scary," the people who've chosen these professions face some of our biggest fears every day.
1. Construction
I'm sure you're wondering, "How is construction work scary?" Aside from it being dangerous working with all the tools, construction workers often times have to do something many of us are deathly afraid of -- going to high places. Yes, construction workers often have to go on rooves to do their jobs.
Are you afraid of heights? Construction workers certainly can't be.
2. Pilots
This job is terrifying for obvious reasons. You don't have to have a fear of flying to understand why this one made the list. You are hovering above the planet in a tin can, with dozens of lives in your hands. Eeek!
3. Meteorologists
Meteorologists are people we depend on every day. They tell us what kind of weather and hazardous conditions could be ahead.
According to Monster.com, fear of thunderstorms is one of the biggest fear in the country; meteorologists are always in the eye of the storm.
4. Elevator Mechanics
I'm not sure that this is a very common job in North Dakota, but it certainly exists. Why is this job so terrifying?? -- Have you ever heard of claustrophobia. Many people can't stand to be in confined spaces, making this job very scary for a lot of us.
5. Exterminator
I'm not sure I even have to go into much explanation with this one; all bugs are terrifying. One of the most common fears is Entomophobia (Fear of insects). Exterminators come face to face with any/all types of bugs every day, making this job especially creepy.
6. Phlebotomist
There's a lot of pressure working in the medical field; you have people's lives in your hands. Phlebotomists do what many of us fear most. They handle blood. Hemophobia is another one of the biggest fears out there, according to the source. This job isn't for the squeamish.
7. Teachers
You might be scratching your head at this one, but think about it. What is another one of the biggest fears out there? I'll tell you -- public speaking. What do teachers do every day? -- They speak in front of large groups every day. Kudos to their bravery.
8. Podiatrists
Have you ever seen a foot? They are terrifying and gross. Many people have a fear of feet. Podiatrists will hold your feel like the hand of a kid who needs help crossing the road. Brava you brave individuals.
9. Truck Drivers
Sleep deprivation is part of the fear here, but a lot of people have a legitimate fear of driving. These guys (and gals) drive big rigs across the country, in every kind of weather condition you can imagine. It's a real skill and danger.
10. Microbiologists
You might be confused by this one, but let me paint the picture for you: disease, viruses, and germs. These are very scary things to many of us; microbiologist handle and study these things every day.
