Major Grocery Chain to Open 800 New Locations: Is North Dakota on the List?
Groceries are getting more and more expensive, so hearing that we may get a new, more affordable shopping spot is always exciting.
News broke last year (2024) that a major chain grocery store was planning a $9 billion expansion. Yep, that's billion with a "b."
With that, the chain plans to open 800 new Aldi stores nationwide.
SuperMarketNews.com explained that the chain store has been working on a purchase of the Winn-Dixie and Harvey stores in the south. This will give them property to open many new Aldi locations in the South.
The rest of the expansion will take place in the Northeast and Midwest. The company plans to build 300 locations in these regions.
If you're looking to save money, Aldi would be a great place to stock up, as it has been named the second-cheapest grocery store in the country, next to Walmart. This, according to TasteOfHome.com.

Could North Dakota Get One?
According to SupermarketNews.com, Aldi stores will be popping up everywhere over the next several years. The source says the chain plans to have this expansion complete by 2028.
North Dakota already has three Aldi stores: two in Fargo and one in Grand Forks.
What about the rest of the state?
I'm sure Bismarck, Dickinson, and Minot would love to see an Aldi store open in the next couple of years.
Wouldn't Bismarck's old Food Co-Op building be perfect for this? - I think so.
Unfortunately, the specifics on where the midwestern stores will open hasn't been announced, but with so many stores opening, how could we not get one?
I guess we will have to wait and see. Keep your fingers crossed and keep checking in; we will let you know as soon as we hear whether western North Dakota will be getting any new Aldi locations.
