Food You Will Miss Desperately If You Move Away From North Dakota
I’ve been lucky enough to live in North Dakota for all but a couple of years of my life. During those two LONG years away, it didn't take long for me to miss the many comforts of home including North Dakota cuisine. We are blessed with an abundance of delicious North Dakota dishes that truly SCREAM NoDak, so I thought I would come up with a list of food you would miss if you were ever to leave our state.
Number one with a bullet would be WALLEYE.
So many different ways you can cook walleye and it's all good. Throw it on the grill in some aluminum foil for a healthy alternative to the traditional pan-fried or deep-fried.
I promise you, this is the best-tasting fish you will ever put between your lips. If you haven't tried it yet, I'm not sure why you are waiting. There's a reason why it's so expensive in grocery stores and restaurants. Grab a rod and reel, hit the river, and catch your own right here in Bismarck Mandan.
The second most missed food item is made right here in North Dakota. Village Salsa!
It's made in my hometown of Grand Forks, North Dakota and it's so popular, that grocery stores in the Twin Cities started carrying it after so much demand. Outside of the Minneapolis area, you will be hard-pressed to find this savory sauce anywhere other than North Dakota.
It literally sells out weekly at my local grocery store in Bismarck. I've asked C-Stores in town to start carrying it because I know it would be a big seller. Village Salsa is sold in most convenience stores in Grand Forks.
Next on my North Dakota food you will miss would be Caramel Rolls.
Yes, you can find them in a few other states in the upper Midwest, but they are not common like found in North Dakota. C-Stores, grocery stores, restaurants, and bakeries all feature caramel rolls up here.
Rounding out my top list of foods you will miss if you move away from North Dakota would be your Scandinavian and German foods.
Everything from lefse, knoephla soup, kuchen, and fleischkuekle. So many people I know love these North Dakota staples.
You probably won't miss the cold weather or mosquitos, but I promise you, you will miss the food above.
