Confidence Is Growing For Accumulating Snow In North Dakota
Only in North Dakota
We could go from temperatures near 80 degrees on Saturday to accumulating snow on Monday morning. Yep, maybe even in Bismarck-Mandan. Confidence is growing for some accumulating snow in western North Dakota, and it appears that the Capital Region could be right on the edge of this early snow. Temperatures are certainly going to be cold enough early Monday morning, with lows in the lower 30s. Remember, we need a 1/10 of an inch for it to be considered our first snow.
The Most Likely Snow Area
Again, the best chance for accumulating snow is in Western North Dakota. Several weather agencies I follow have jumped on board with this snow chance, and a couple of them even have Bismarck in the slight chance for accumulating snow.

The National Weather Service in Bismarck still has no mention of snow in their forecast for the Capital Region. They are still calling for overnight low temps on Monday morning in the mid to upper 30s, which means we will likely only see rain. Just remember, forecasts change in the blink of an eye, and it wouldn't surprise me at all for flakes to be included in the forecast as we are still several days out.
We Need Moisture
Any snow we do see will likely melt shortly after falling, and we need the precipitation. The southern 2/3rd of the state remains in a drought, and I think most agree we will take whatever moisture we can get. Frozen or not.
We will continue to monitor this developing situation, along with our meteorologists from Severe Studios on-air. I wouldn't worry about shoveling, but it's a good reminder to make sure your snowblower is ready for another North Dakota winter.
