The month of December has arrived, ushering in the beginning of the winter season. Please take note that this is your annual reminder that it is time to make sure that the streets of Williston continue to be accessible and safe for everyone. Williston residents are reminded by the City of Williston that parking limitations have been implemented for trailers, boats, campers, and other vehicles that are comparable to these vehicle types.

City Ordinance 10-247 prohibits parking these vehicles on residential streets from December 1 to March 31. This rule is crucial for allowing snowplows and emergency vehicles to navigate neighborhoods efficiently.

Here’s a quick summary of the ordinance:

  • It’s illegal to park or leave standing any boat, camper, motor home, trailer, or similar vehicle on public streets in residential zones during this period.
  • A $20 fine may be issued for each day of non-compliance.
  • Vehicles parked for more than 48 hours will be considered abandoned and may be removed.

These vehicles or trailers should be parked in driveways, storage facilities, or other appropriate sites in order to contribute to the maintenance of clear streets in Williston. In addition to the possibility of receiving a fine, violations can also impede attempts to remove snow and create situations that are hazardous for driving.

As a resident of Williston, I can't thank you enough for helping maintain safe, snow-free roadways this winter! Sure, most of us are fortunate enough to have a four-wheel-drive vehicle to get around in, but things are just a bit better when the snow is cleaned off. Stay safe, and remember: clear streets make for a safer community.
