This group has been around since 1986 and has been doing great things in the community ever since. One thing that sticks out in my mind is all the years the Williston Woodworkers have been at the Upper Missouri Valley Fair. Their first appearance at the fair was in 1990. From open to close each day, this dedicated and patient group works with kids of all ages scrolling names, logos, and more FOR FREE. They also set up shop in Watford City at the McKenzie County Fair.

While visiting with Tom Bloch, one of the original members of The Williston Woodworkers Association, he mentioned several projects the group has done or been involved with over the years.

  • Opportunity Foundation - Cest to sell tickets
  • James Memorial Art Center - Hangers for gallery
  • Williams County Fair - Benchers and display panels
  • ND Association for the Blind - Made chair frames and magazine stands for the blind to cane
  • James Memorial Art Center - finished doors
  • James Memorial Art Center - repaired storm windows for the gallery
  • Military National Guard - Display cases
  • James Memorial Art Center - Bird house silent auction
  • Mercy Hospital - Memory Boxes
  • Cradels for American State Bank - Gifts for the needy

When this group gets things together for their show, you might think the proceeds raised would go back to the group. That is not the case at all. All their silent auction items showcased at the fair are sold, and the woodworkers donate all the money raised to the fair.

The same will happen at this latest show. You can see examples of carving, wood burning, turning, and scroll sawing. Be sure to bid on all the silent auction items at the show because all the dollars raised will be donated back to the James Memorial Art Center. Come and meet this great group of people, and maybe get involved with them.
