In town for the tournament? Here are some of Butte’s must-try eateries
Are you and your family in town for the Western C Divisional or the Frontier Conference basketball tournaments this weekend? If you're looking for something to eat that you're not going to find in any other place, Butte has many restaurants that fall into that category. Here are a couple you will definitely remember.
PORK CHOP JOHN'S
On Harrison Avenue and the original location Uptown on Mercury Street, Pork Chop John's has been a Butte staple for generations. Their Original Pork Chop Sandwich is incredible but you can't go wrong with their pork nuggets or cheeseburgers.
FREEWAY TAVERN
On South Montana Street, the Freeway is also known for their incredible "Wop Chop" pork chop sandwich that is served with fries or jo jo potatoes and also for their incredible fried chicken that can be taken to go. The Freeway, notably, was a hangout of Evel Knievel and much of his memorabilia is on display there.
HP2 CAFE
Just recently opened, the HP2 is on Wynne Avenue, behind Wal Mart in the Butte Produce and Supply warehouse building. It may be a bit out of the way but it is well worth it and they DoorDash. Their smashburgers are enormous and delicious and you can't go wrong with one of their cold sandwiches or salads. You'll thank us on this one.
HANGIN' 5
The Hangin 5, just off Harrison and across from Safeway, is a great family restaurant and a wonderful place for a big breakfast. Their portions are hearty and, in true Butte fashion, offer three different types of gravy for your hash browns. In Butte, that's a big deal.
CASAGRANDA'S STEAKHOUSE
On Utah in the old Warehouse District, Casagranda's is a beautifully renovated warehouse brimming with local lore and some of the best steaks in town. Their chicken dishes and pasta are also outstanding.
METALS SPORTS BAR AND GRILL
If you're not getting enough sports this weekend you can always head to Metals Sports Bar and Grill on the corner of Park and Main and catch more sports action on one of their dozens of tvs. Chef T always has something special on the menu and you can never miss with a selection off of their appetizer menu.
