This past Saturday, emergency personnel from throughout the state of North Dakota came together to participate in a major toy drive. The organizers are pleased to report that the event was a big success once again this year after all of the tabulating and toy counting took place.

2023 Toy & Food Drive

Law enforcement agencies from North Dakota Highway Patrol, Bismarck Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, Northwood Police, Burleigh County Sheriff's Department, Morton County Sheriff's Department, Williston Police Department, Williams County Sheriff's Department, Manvel Fre Department, Williston Fire Department, ND Game & Fish, Williams County Emergency Management, and ND Parks & Recreation got together to make this happen. I thought it was important to name each participating agency to draw attention to just how big this coordinated effort was. Local sponsors included Williston Auto and Liechty Homes.

The toy drive itself lasted 9 hours,  and Williston's event was at the Walmart parking lot. Organizers set things up like a big drive-through. Donations were steady, and everyone had a great time! Not only was the goal to do a toy drive, but organizers thought it was important to coordinate a food drive for the local pantries.

Officials tell me that more than 1300 toys and around 400 pounds of food were collected just in Williston! The other collection sites took in around 1000 toys. To say the event was a success is a huge understatement.

Everyone involved should be proud of their efforts! It's nice to be able to say residents of the Peace Garden State stepped up and made Christmas brighter and better for those who need some help.  I have said it time and again, this is what North Dakota nice is all about. Thanks to everyone that participated!
