Join The Journey: Western Dakota Honor Flight To D.C. With Veterans
The Honor Flight Network is dedicated to honoring America’s veterans by transporting them to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials commemorating their service and sacrifices. This network of independent hubs enables veterans to connect, reflect, and share their stories with fellow comrades during an unforgettable experience—all at no cost to them.
This cause was founded by Earl Morse, a retired Air Force captain, and Jeff Miller, a WWII Memorial Foundation member, Honor Flight began as a grassroots effort in 2005. Morse initially organized small flights for WWII veterans using private planes, while Miller expanded the program by chartering commercial jets. In 2007, their efforts merged into the Honor Flight Network, which has since escorted over 200,000 veterans to their memorials.
This spring, the Honor Flight is coming to Minot for the first time. The Western Dakota Honor Flight will depart from Minot International Airport on April 27, carrying 110 veterans to Washington, D.C. Priority is given to veterans aged 80 and older and those with terminal illnesses, though all veterans can apply.
This remarkable journey is made possible through nearly $200,000 in community donations per flight, showcasing the deep appreciation and respect communities hold for their heroes.
As Dennis Burdolski, president of the Western Dakota Honor Flight board, expressed, “Everyone is excited about doing this.” Veterans are encouraged to apply, though spaces are limited.
For those boarding this flight, it will be more than a trip—it’s a profound expression of gratitude and a moment to honor their legacy.
