Skoal! What’s North Dakota’s Favorite Holiday Drink
The day, the week and the year are all winding down today. New Year's Eve is tomorrow night. You might be feeling festive, and want to throw together a party your friends will not forget. This time of year, all eyes are on what spirits will be served to ring in the new year. Beer, whiskey, some new flavor of the week. It's hard to keep up on the booze train. It's amazing what you can find with Google. I asked what the favorite drink might be for us in the frigid tundra that we call North Dakota. I thought it might something warm. Nope! It found a site called yummly.com. Here is the rundown of our favorite holiday drinks in this part of the world. It could for Christmas. It might be for New Years. Who cares, we are talking booze!
North Dakota
It turns our the survey found we enjoy the white chocolate peppermint Christmas cocktail. The White Chocolate Peppermint Vodka beverage is the most popular in our state. It contains white chocolate liqueur, whipped cream, crushed candy canes, and peppermint schnapps. I guess if it has candy canes, it can pass! This might be a good way to get rid of those spare candy canes around the house too!
Montana
It's certainly not the beachy time of year, but It seems the tiki culture is not necessarily required to enjoy Montana's favorite holiday drink...The Mai Tai! Light and dark rum, citrus juices, and almond-flavored liqueur (orgeat) is a winner wherever you are. These will certainly make you forget about winter!
Minnesota
I know you have to be tough to live in this neck of the world. I would have thought people in Minnesota would have grabbed a beer, or something with whiskey. The survey on yummly.com doesn't say so. It appears the brandy alexander is the favored drink in the land of 10,000 lakes. The brandy Alexander is put together with Cognac or another brandy, creme de cacao, and cream shaken over ice and given a shower of ground nutmeg. I will not lie...these are pretty darn good all year long!
South Dakota
Remember, we are celebrating a new year. Out with the old, and in with the new! Our friends to the south will not be outdone! The favored drink during the holidays in South Dakota involves vodka (GASP)! The moscow mule is the go to drink for Kristi's state. Vodka, lime juice and ginger based beer is all you need for this favorite. Do not forget the copper cup either!
These are some suggestions for your your big end of the year bash. Whatever you choose to eat and drink at your party, be safe, and cheers to 2023!
